Energy Secure Armenia Activity – USAID funded project
February 2023 – December 2024
The purpose of the Energy Secure Armenia Activity is to bolster Armenia’s energy security by promoting a shift to renewable energy sources (RES), further power market liberalization and trade, and promote greater energy efficiency (EE). This will be done by assisting the Government of Armenia (GOAM), the Public Service Regulatory Commission (PSRC), the private sector, and other energy stakeholders to diversify the country’s energy supply, reduce dependence on imported gas, and lessen greenhouse gas emissions, enabling the Armenian energy sector to serve as a vehicle of long-term economic growth.
Task 1. Support in Community RES/EE pilot development
Task 2. Design Action Plan to supporting GOAM in implementing Second/Third National energy efficiency action plan (NEEAP)
Task 3. Support in RES/EE communications strategy and plan, including content development for the online platform.
Task 1 included development of Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP) for Gyumri.
Task 2 included drafting the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan. The task involved a thorough energy baseline assessment, specifically for 1352 public schools in Armenia.
A web application for collection, structuring, analysis and visualization of building characteristics, technical condition and seismic vulnerability along with utility data was developed and launched.
Energy Performance Indicators were calculated for these 1352 schools which resulted in estimating energy saving potential for each organization.
